Di Barker Specializes in Traditional Feng Shui
The most common type of Feng Shui practiced in America, and much of the west, is called Black Hat Sect, sometimes called Western or Feng Shui. Di practices Classical Traditional Feng Shui, the type practiced in Asia.
"My methods are intensely layered. Classical Feng Shui is complex in that it functions regardless of the occupants’ beliefs. It encompasses time and land and water formation, the direction, the location and the function of the building, along with the occupant’s interaction with the environment.
I use a Chinese Lou Pan and the San He system of Feng Shui to evaluate the surrounding areas, assess the yin and yang balance of the landscape as well as the building and to establish the house facing and sitting directions. My focus is on enhancing the beneficial energies and negating those that are detrimental using the 8-Mansions (Ba Zhai) as well as the Xuan Kong Flying Star (San Yuan) schools of Feng Shui."
Di's travels to 33 countries exposed her to a vast array of cultures, but it was her first trip to Asia in 1997 that sparked her fascination with Feng Shui. As a graduate of the Yap Cheng Hai Feng Shui Center of Excellence, and training with the revered Lillian Too, Di enjoys blending this modality with Interior Design. She has created enhanced Feng Shui lifestyles for both residential and corporate clients in Portland as well as Vancouver BC, Canada.
Born and raised in South Africa, Di enjoyed careers as a highly successful Managing Principal Real Estate Broker, as well as in the glamorous world of fashion and design. Toronto Canada was home for three years before her and her family moved to the Pacific Northwest in 2001.
People not only marvel at how beautiful her spaces look: they are always intrigued by how magical they feel.
She believes she has a responsibility to ensure that the spaces she builds are not just about filling rooms with pretty things. She has a unique design lens and uses countless layers of stimulating and exciting filters to ensure her clients’ homes feel special. She does this very successfully by grounding her design projects with a tangible harmonic energy that resonates through all of her work.
Di has proudly served on the board for Hats Off For Cancer since 2004. HOFC is an international charity that collects hats for children suffering from cancer and who lose their hair during treatment.
